Sathnam Sanghera is a British non-fiction writer whose third book, Empireland: How Imperialism Has Shaped Modern Britain, became an instant Sunday Times bestseller upon its release in 2021. It was named a Book of the Year at the 2022 British Books Awards and inspired Empire State of Mind, an acclaimed two-part documentary on Channel 4. He was shortlisted for Best Presenter at the 2022 Grierson Awards for his role in the documentary. Sathnam has also been shortlisted twice for the Costa Book Awards: once for his memoir The Boy With The Topknot and once for his novel Marriage Material. The former was adapted into a BBC Drama in 2017 and named Mind Book of the Year in 2009. Born in the West Midlands, Sathnam entered the education system unable to speak English. After attending Wolverhampton Grammar School, he graduated from Christ’s College, Cambridge with a first-class degree in English Language and Literature.
